1. The story so far . . .
Recycling waste. We have recycling procedures in place for recyclable materials and for garden / biodegradable waste. We use eco office supplies and recycled paper. Replaced appliances go to recycling agencies.
Reducing pollution. We have changed to environmentally friendly cleaning products. We have introduced eco friendly toiletries without sacrificing quality. Wherever possible we use organic foods sourced locally. Cars are serviced regularly and constantly maintained. We are a 100% no-smoking household. Conserving energy. Floor, wall, window and loft insulation has been installed. Many light bulbs in all areas of Dyers House have been changed to low energy while others have dimmers and sensors. There are user controlled thermostats for underfloor heating throughout. Existing boilers have been replaced with an on demand gas boiler. We have a 'turn off' policy and 'no print' policy for email. We use rechargeable batteries and energy efficient appliances wherever possible and on replacement. Conserving water. We offer optional daily services to guests for changing towels and linen otherwise towels are changed every other day. We have dual flush toilets and leaks in taps and bathroom facilities are promptly fixed. Garden is mulched regularly and watering is on timer. Global and local community support. We support these charities; Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Riding for the Disabled, What’s Up, RSPCA, WSPCA. In recent years Angela has been collecting for the Epilepsy Foundation, Angels for Children, Heart Children. Heritage and cultural conservation. Retaining the Edwardian heritage of the house during renovation and installation of modern efficient facilities. 2. Areas for improvement
Further reductions in our energy consumption by increased energy efficiency, reducing our water consumption by improving water usage and waste, creating less land-fill by the use of waste reduction and recycling.
3. What's next . . .
We aim to improve constantly by looking for new ways to help the environment. Over the rest of this year we shall focus on anti-pollution and water useage. We plan to collect rain water for outside use by installing water butts. Major chimney work will see an open fire replaced by a new feature gas fire.
