Reviews of Dyers House Christchurch

What our guests have said about their stay, including tips and insights given by first-time visitors.

A little taste of luxury with warm and welcoming hospitality l recently had the pleasure of staying in this gem of a boutique guest house and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Owners and hosts Barry and Angela treated me with such warmth and made me feel a part of their Family from the moment l arrived until sadly l had to leave. The home itself is beautiful with lovely finishing touches that really did enhance what was already a 'little taste of luxury'. l cannot praise Dyers House and Barry and Angela enough and can only finish by saying.. a very big thank you and l do hope to see you both and stay in your lovely home once again.

Home Away From Home We spent 3 nights at Dyers House and it was just grand. Angela and Barry are wonderful hosts who want to do everything possible to make your stay with them exceptional. Our guest room was very warm, comfotable and inviting, the breakfast was excellent and the views from the house were beautiful. They have a lovely garden full of flowers that is very peaceful and relaxing. While a bit from the center of town it more then makes up for it by hosts that are superb and an atmosphere that makes you feel at home Vs being a guest. Forget those other places, go home to Dyers House!

location, location, location For us, it was location, location, location. Dyers House was the perfect location for our short 2-night stay in Christchurch. Close to the city, close to the NZ National Bottle Show, close to restaurants. Angela and Barry connected with us both. They provided us with breakfast options as we had to leave early Saturday morning and breakfast on Sunday was one of the best we have ever had. A most enjoyable stay and we will be back :)

"The Best in Every Way" Dyers House is a gem of a place in a great location perched on a hill overlooking downtown Christchurch making the views quite stunning. Its inviting outside pictures only tease how charming, tastefully decorated yet comfortable it is on the inside. Our perfectly kept room facing the fairyland garden was delightful to sleep in. Barry & Angela were always available with help, suggestions and fine conversation. The breakfast is fabulous!!! From the moment we met Barry at the airport until our final good-byes, we felt welcome and cared for. St. George, Utah

Lucky, lucky After Air New Zealand cancelled our flight from Rotorua we had to take a bus back to Auckland. Due to the length of time to get back we missed our connecting flight to Queenstown. Air NZ couldn't get us to our destination until the next day, which would have missed our tours we had set up. We had to cancel the entire Queenstown part of our vacation. They were able to get us a flight to Christchurch, that put us there 1 1/2 days early. Being it was during ChineseNew Year, all the hotels in the city were full and our reservations weren't ready. We called our travel agent at home and he found a B&B a little bit out of town. We met Barry, owner of Dyers House that night (11:30pm) waiting for our arrival. We were exausted from spending 9 hours in the Aukland Airport while waiting for our flight to Christchurch. Barry helped us to our room, that was most pleasant and comfortable with wonderful views of the gardens and Christchurch below. We woke up late and Barry and Angie had prepared our breakfast of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, coffee and tea, and more all of which were beautifully presented and excellent. We met Angie that day, a delightful, hard working lady that made us feel so welcome. Both Barry and Angie were very knowledgable of the Christchurch area and were very helpful in our planning while in Christchurch. Had we known about Dyers House we may have stayed there instead of going to town where our reservations were for the remainder of our stay. We recommend the Dyers House to anyone who is looking for a five star B&B! Thanks to Barry and Angie for their genuine hospitality and absolute pride in their gorgeous establishment. DELIGHTFUL SPOT We had a very pleasant stay in this lovely home. Angela and Barry were very welcoming and great hosts. Gorgeous fresh cakes and pastries greeted us when we arrived on a bleak Christchurch afternoon. Our spirits were soon heightened after making a lovely cuppa (so many choices I lost count) served in beautiful china. Our room was splendid opening out to the garden and would have been well used on a nicer afternoon. We loved the atmosphere and our visits by Erik, the friendly feline. The continental breakfast was plentiful with good choices. Unfortunately we only enjoyed a one-night-stay but highly recommend.

Lovely place to stay What a fabulous house! Great views from the dining/living area, wonderfully decorated and cared for throughout, and only a short distance to the centre of Christchurch. We had a luxurious room facing the garden with lovely linens, comfortable bed, and a large ensuite bathroom. Angela and Barry were fabulous hosts - all in all, a great place to stay and we would recommend.

Luxury, charm & very friendly hosts. We enjoyed our stay so much, we're already looking for an excuse to go back to Christchurch. Angela & Barry (and their talking cat, Eric) made us very welcome in their delightful hill-top home. It's ideally located for walks and the views on both sides of the hills are spectacular.

Beautiful home From the moment we stepped in to Dyers House we were made to feel at home. Angela and Barry were brilliant and entertaining and gave lots of useful advise Breakfast was probably one of the best we have had, so much choice We stayed in the gorgeous Garden Room and had regular visits from Eric the cat. Bed was very comfortable and slept like a baby If you are wondering whether to stay at Dyers House then the answer should be a definite yes. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if lucky enough to visit Christchurch again

Beautiful home, breathtaking views, delicious food, and gracious host We just returned from a wonderful trip to New Zealand where we stayed in Christchurch at Dyers House for 2 nights in the White Room. The room is large and well appointed with a comfortable bed with beautiful linens. The bathroom is large with a heated floor and heated towel rack. We enjoyed the sitting area by the big windows with a great view, also enjoying the coffee, teas, and snacks provided in the room. The home itself sits high up on the hill and has a great view of the city below and mountains in the distance. Angela is a wonderful host and did a lot to help us enjoy our time and get around. She was also a delight to talk to and we enjoyed her stories. The breakfast spread was amazing each morning with so much delicious food to enjoy. So many wonderful things to say about Dyers House! We highly recommend it!

All the Comforts of Home After reading 58 reviews and dismissing the single negative one, I chose Dyers for an overnight stay. The room was large and comfortable with all amenities one could ever need, and the hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. There's little more I can add, as the other 57 reviews have said all the nice things for me.

Embodiment of cordial B&B culture in a transformed character home Loved staying there and so did my teenage daughter. It was very inspiring to see one of these beautiful Christchurch character houses being renovated to the highest standards, with style and grace, loving attention to detail and a lot of careful planning. I travel a lot and stay in all sorts of places and hardly ever take the time to write a review but I made a very conscious decision to write one in this case: Hospitable, interesting owners; beautiful home with great views from the breakfast area on the first level; quite elegant, but predominantly cosy guest rooms which feel a bit like a protective haven.

GRACIOUS HOSTS AND A GRACIOUS HOME Such a beautiful home to stay .............. the owners did, in fact, describe her as being a gracious old lady!". The rooms were downstairs and ours opened onto the garden and a dear little patio. Barry and Angela could not have been kinder and we went away feeling that we had made special friends. The breakfast felt as though we had just landed in Europe .......... and there were a lot of delicious nibbles to be had in our bedroom.

A very special place I would rate my stay 11 out of 10 if I could. Thank you so much Angela and Barry for looking after me like one of the family. The room was heavenly. I don"t think I have slept so well anywhere and in such comfort. I am very much looking forward to returning very soon.

Super luxury stay in Christchurch We felt very fortunate to have spent 2 nights earlier this week at Dyers House, a boutique B & B nestled on a hill overlooking Christchurch. The house is very elegant and filled with lovely furniture and artwork. Our large downstairs bedroom looked out over a flower-filled garden and had a wonderfully comfortable bed. After returning from dinner we were delighted to find a delicious French pastry and cookies waiting for us in our room. Our hosts, Barry and Angela, served us a gourmet breakfast with fresh fruits, cold meats, fantastic pastries and more. Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful in giving us travel tips, restaurant recommendations (and making reservations for us!) , and driving directions. Our stay at Dyers House was one of the highlights of our trip and we recommend it highly.

Incredible • Memorable • Beautiful "JUST BOOK IT !! PRICELESS EXPERIENCE You won't find a B&B, you shall experience a family of your own away from Home. Well well, I can go on and on about this place, especially about Angela,Barry and our experience at Dyers house. An Elite upscale property over the hills, 10 - 15 mins drive from the city center. You see the entire Christchurch city from their mansion. Good spacious rooms equipped with heaters. There's a cute little balcony out side your room which opens into a garden. They're one of the most beautiful couple and human beings we've met. So much of love, concern and care that we forgot we were travelers and felt one of them. While touring NZ, we stayed over at Dyers house in Dec 15 for our New Years, we were there For 3N/4D and believe me I didn't feel like leaving them nor the beautiful mansion. It's a priceless experience, Barry was very kind to receive us at the Christchurch airport himself, they even took us out with their friends for a beautiful dinner with wine on New Year's Eve at a near by restaurant (and a cute little hotel) named governors bay which was located between the mountains. What a scenic drive it was ! We were given the entire house to use upon, they have a fridge placed outside your room which will never runout of interesting juices, beverages, beer etc We were welcomed with beautiful fresh flowers, Angela got us delicious fruits, Barry made us a refreshing lemonade at the arrival, our room was filled with tea sets, macaroons, other deserts etc etc Angela made sure we never ran out of fruits and drinks. They helped us in guiding through the city, Barry even took us out for a drive to the city and helped fetch is back home. As we had to leave early morning on our check out, Angela and Barry prepared breakfast for us at 7am and even dropped us at the train station, I shall always appreciate and respect this gesture of treating us like their own children during our entire stay there. Thank you very much.
